« on: March 17, 2006, 06:49:25 AM »

Malaika is a new children's book series with a positive outlook on Africa.

Malaika means Angel in Swahili. In this first book of the series, Malaika goes to Kenya on a family vacation. She has so much fun it is hard for her to say goodbye. It also teaches kids simple Swahili words!

According to her website, http://www.mymalaika.com/11.html, the author of the children's book: Malaika, Safari Adventure to Kenya, Nyagus (pronounced Nia-goos), was inspired to start writing children’s story books by her grandmother who told her "the most amazing African folk stories" when she was a child. Nyagus migrated from Kenya to America over 20 years ago. She earned a BBA and an MBA and for many years, worked as a finance professional with reputable companies including Home Depot, AT&T and Freddie Mac, but she was never fulfilled. One day, Nyagus decided to quit her job and spend more time with her young children. She had come to the conclusion that this was "the most fulfilling" way to spend her preciously priceless time. It then dawned on her that with her love of reading to her children and her grandmother’s inspiration, writing children’s books, something she always dreamt about doing but could never find the time to do, was the natural next step.

Nyagus has been writing children’s books ever since. She wrote her first book for her children to answer the question she is always asked: Where are you from? Nyagus says that people are always amazed by the artwork in that book, which she illustrated herself using a basic home computer!

Nyagus lives in Florida, United States, with her husband, a math professor, and their two children.

Her book Malaika, can be odered online (http://www.mymalaika.com/7.html) and its costs only US$4.99, shipping and handling included (see https://www.paypal.com/cart/checkout=1&page_style=PayPal) . If you have kids please check it out.
