Registration Agreement

The following is the registration agreement that users interested in becoming registered members of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums will need to review and agree to before they sign-up. The agreement will be amended from time to time as need arises. The amended registration agreement will be announced and circulated to all registered members for them to review and ensure that they continue to agree and comply with its terms and conditions.

You agree, through your use and participation in TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal laws or laws of any democratic country. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on these forums.

Note that it is impossible for the owners and moderators of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums to confirm the validity of posts. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages, and as such, are not responsible for the contents contained within each post. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented. The posted messages express the views of the authors, and not necessarily the views of the owners or moderators of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums and/or its affiliated sites. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator at forums@theafricandiaspora.com or the moderator of the affected forum immediately. The owners and moderators of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums reserve the right to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if they determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, please realize that they may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your posted messages. Furthermore, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the owners and moderators of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums, any affiliated related websites, its staff, and its subsidiaries. The owners and moderators of these forums also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any other related information collected on this service) in the event of a formal complaint or legal action arising from any situation caused by your use of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another person except an administrator, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another person's account for any reason.  We also HIGHLY recommend you use a complex and unique password for your account, to prevent account theft.

After you register and login to TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums, you will be able to fill out a form and provide a detailed profile of yourself, if you so choose. Note that at this point, you can also edit your displayed name (your handle) that is the name people will see on your posting, which could be different from your username, the login name. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information about yourself in the profile. Any information the owners and moderators of TheAfricanDiaspora.com/Forums determine to be inaccurate or vulgar in nature will be removed, with or without prior notice. Appropriate sanctions may be applicable.

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.

Also note that the software places a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This is ONLY used to keep you logged in/out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer.

Based on our resources (i.e., disk space and bandwidth), we are currently targeting for about 1,000 registered users (and an equal number of guests) who are passionate about discussing African issues and sharing ideas. Registered members are encouraged to start stimulating discussions with exciting topics or replies to topics already started by others. To keep the discussions fresh and current, all topics, except stickies (usually those started by administrators or moderators), or topics with unexpired polls will be removed (i.e., pruned) if they do not receive any replies in 100 days! Topic starters are highly encouraged to use the polls feature to make the discussions more interactive and lively, but please make the polls relevant to the topics in which they are contained in. Furthermore, users are allowed to attach up to two documents/files per post (including in replies), subject to availability of adequate disk space. For now, files with extensions: avi, doc, gif, jpg, mov, mp3, mpg, pdf, png and txt are allowed, with a maximum size of 3.5MB per file. We encourage users to attach such documents/files as newsletters, photos, video and sound clips, music, news releases, PDFed articles, etc to further enhance the usefulness of their topics.
