Welcome to the new TheAfricanDiaspora/Forums, a website and discussion forums. This is a community-based website with an objective to provide forums and avenues for articulation of African perspectives, act as an information resource, as well as a marketplace for products, services and ideas. In this context, and in the spirit of our motto--In community unity, lies our strength--this website welcomes ideas and input from anyone interested in the advancement of Africans everywhere.

Based on our resources (i.e., disk space and bandwidth), we are targeting for about 1,000 registered users (and an equal number of guests) who are passionate about discussing African issues and sharing ideas. Registered members are encouraged to start stimulating discussions with exciting topics or replies to topics already started by others. To keep the discussions fresh and current, all topics, except stickies (usually those started by administrators or moderators), or topics with unexpired polls will be removed (i.e., pruned) if they do not receive any replies in 100 days! Topic starters are highly encouraged to use the polling feature to make the discussions more interactive and lively, but please make the polls relevant to the topics in which they are contained. Furthermore, users are allowed to attach up to two documents/files per post (including in replies), subject to availability of adequate disk space. For now files with extensions: avi, doc, gif, jpg, mov, mp3, mpg, pdf, png and txt are allowed, with a maximum size of 3.5MB per file. We encourage users to attach such documents/files as newsletters, photos, video and music clips, news releases, PDFed articles, etc to further enhance the usefulness of their topics.

Going forward, and depending on the response we receive from you (the potential users), we expect to expand our internet resources to be able to accommodate more registered users. But for now, we would like you to be part of a great tradition that we are starting, by being among the first 1,000 registered users of TheAfricanDiaspora/Forums.

Just to reiterate, we would like to request that, in your discussions please be precise and to the point, abiding by the following guidelines:
  • Discussions and responses should be able to stand alone without links, and provide links for further reference only, if needed.
  • Use of links is strongly discouraged unless used as specified above.
  • Respond to specific issues raised by the topics and avoid specific attacks on personalities. Any such unwarranted attacks on personalities may lead to being banned from the discussion forums.
  • Make the discussion clean and intellectually stimulating and avoid vulgarism and cheap/idle talk.

We are open to more suggestions on this, please send your suggestions to forums@theafricandiaspora.com, or just reply to this topic and provide your comments here.
